Celebrating Our Halloween Photo Contest Notable Finalists
The creativity in our Halloween Photo Contest has been absolutely incredible! While choosing winners was tough, we couldn't help but spotlight these six outstanding designs that showcased exceptional artistry, innovation, and spooky-season spirit. Each artist brought something unique to the table, and we're thrilled to share their inspiring work with you.
Sweet and Spooky: Rhianimations' Candy-Filled Pumpkin

Rhianimations took the classic jack-o'-lantern and gave it a delightfully unexpected twist. Their design features a vibrant orange pumpkin face painting with textured details that make it pop off the skin, but here's where it gets creative - the top of the head is styled to look like it's overflowing with colorful candy! Moss-like accents and candy props complete this playful look that perfectly balances cute and creepy.
"I had inspiration from other artists and combined the ideas into my own. I really wanted to showcase a pumpkin but with a sweet twist," the artist shared. This design proves that face painting is all about taking familiar themes and making them your own.
Between Worlds: Oliviapaigeartistry's Mystical Fortune Teller

Talk about hauntingly beautiful! Oliviapaigeartistry created a stunning gypsy fortune teller look that explores the duality of light and shadow. The design features an intricate sugar skull on one side, beautifully blended with glamorous makeup elements, creating a mysterious character who exists between realms.
The artist explained their vision: "My inspiration stemmed from the idea of a fortune teller who exists between worlds - one hand in the light, one in the shadows. I wanted to illustrate the tension between fate and free will. The balance between beauty and the supernatural adding a mysterious, slight touch of glam, and hauntingly alluring vibe!"
Magical Mischief: Definebymakeup's Dobby Transformation

Who says Halloween has to be all about monsters and gore? Definebymakeup brought us a delightful Dobby the house-elf transformation that's perfect for Harry Potter fans everywhere. The prosthetic work on the ears is impressive, and the face painting captures Dobby's expressive features with remarkable detail.
"I thought Harry Potter is always perfect for Halloween but not many people showcase Dobby!" the artist noted. This design is a great reminder that beloved characters can make just as much impact as traditional scary faces during spooky season.
Autumn Elegance: Kellybrycemua's Scarecrow Illusion

Kellybrycemua created a scarecrow design that celebrates the cozy side of fall while maintaining that eerie Halloween edge. What makes this design special is how the artist incorporated body painting to create a full illusion - the torso appears as weathered wood and straw, making the model look like they've stepped right out of a harvest field.
"I wanted to design something that celebrates my Canadian Thanksgiving and the start of Fall (my favourite season) - that golden, crisp, pumpkin-spice kind of vibe. The Scarecrow felt like the perfect fit, where cozy meets spooky. I love doing looks that I can incorporate the body to be a part of the illusion!" she explained.
Cultural Beauty: Charlottee.mkp's Talavera-Inspired Sugar Skull

Charlottee.mkp delivered a breathtaking sugar skull design that pays homage to Mexican culture through intricate talavera-inspired patterns. The blue and white color scheme is stunning against the white base, with delicate details that showcase multiple face painting techniques including aquacolors, airbrush, and cream paints.
"I love catrinas and skulls, I am inspired by Mexican culture by taking elements like the designs of the talaveras, where their blue patterns and shapes with waves give a beautiful effect of uniqueness," the artist shared. This design demonstrates how sugar skull makeup can be elevated through cultural appreciation and technical skill.
Hidden Darkness: Natalistabodyart's Dual-Nature Clown

Natalistabodyart created something truly symbolic with their clown design. At first glance, you see a cheerful blue-haired clown with a bright smile. But look closer at the body painting - sinister clown faces lurk within the shadows of a painted curtain, creating a powerful visual metaphor.
"My design blends joy and fear. I began with a cute, vibrant clown that inspired me on Pinterest, then reimagined it for Halloween by hiding sinister clowns in the shadows of a curtain. The contrast became symbolic, reflecting how we often hide our fears behind a smile, presenting cheer while concealing something darker beneath," the artist explained. This design shows how face and body art can tell a deeper story.
Wickedly Green: Mua_sophie_sfx's Classic Witch

Sometimes the classics are classic for a reason! Mua_sophie_sfx brought us a wickedly wonderful interpretation of the Wicked Witch of the West. The green face paint is applied with expert precision, creating dimensional shading that brings out every menacing feature. The hand painting extends the illusion beautifully, and those piercing eyes are genuinely unsettling.
"I love spooky season so creating a wicked witch look was something I wanted to create for Halloween time! My inspiration is from the Wicked Witch from Wizard of Oz, her character is so wicked I love it!" the artist shared. This design proves that iconic characters never go out of style when executed with skill and passion.
