Webinar: Monster Face Paint Designs With Zuri FX

Today we are doing monster face paint designs. The monsters we are creating are monsters that we can do on the job, on kids, teenagers, whoever. But these are going to be quick monster designs!

Monster Face Paint Design #1: Orange Tooth Monster

Monster Face Paint Design

We're going to get our white face paint from Kraze FX. With the monster I'm making, there's no actual name for it, but I'm just going to tell you how I make it. So from the bottom of her lip, I'm going to start with the teeth outline, and I also want to put teeth on top, right at the tip of her nose. Adding on to the teeth, I'm going to make the teeth go upwards and a little out, and also bringing up to the other side of the mouth. Do the same thing on the side of the nose, connecting to the mouth. So right now, it looks like a whole bunch of zig zags, but we're going to color it in.

Next I'm going to take the same brush, load it with white, and I'm going to fill in the teeth. With the placement of the mouth, it's best, from what I've learned, to not cover the mouth with the teeth. Now we're going to outline our teeth with white again, to make them longer and sharper.

Next I'm going to use the same brush, pick up Kraze FX pink face paint, and you're loading in circles so that the whole brush can get all the paint on it. Now I'll be making the lips/gums of the monster. I'm just going to go around the top of the teeth with the pink, making a lip shape, and outlining the teeth all the way down. Make the bottom of the lip a little thicker.

Using the same brush, we're going to color inside the mouth of the monster. Once I fill this in, you'll see the teeth come to life. I'm going in with little triangles, using Kraze FX black face paint.

So the rest of the face will be very fast. We're just going to do a nice base color, and some one strokes. Now I'm going to take a small flat brush, and we can do a blue or we can do an orange monster. We're going to go ahead and do an orange one. I'm going to take the Kraze FX orange face paint, load my flat brush, making sure the paint is not too watery, and we're going to take the orange all the way up from the middle of the mouth and around her eyes.

Take the brush underneath the eyes, and then around the mouth, in a thinner line. Then, finish going around the entire eye. On top, we're going to add some frizzy hair.

The split cake we're going to use is Party Xplosion. I'm going to load my brush with it, and the darker color should be on the end. I'm going to start in the middle of the head, right above the eye, and I'm going to do one stroke going all the way around. I'm going to use the split cake for the hair as well. I'm also going to bring a little bit of the split cake around the mouth as well.

Next we're going to do the outline. I'm going to grab a small #1 brush, take black, and load my brush. I'm going to define the teeth a little bit. I'm going to make a curve, not a straight line, but a curve on top of every tooth. This will make the teeth look more realistic.

Now I'm going to outline the mouth. With the eyebrows, I'm going to start in the middle, swoop down, press down my brush, and let go - this will make a mean/angry eyebrow. Now go ahead and do the same thing on the other side.

I'm going to outline the ends, making sure my brush is loaded. We'll also do some wrinkles around the eyes. I'm also going to add some wrinkles around the mouth. I'm going to finish outlining the rest of the design.

Now we have the face, and you can easily stop here if you don't have enough time. But we're going to highlight the design, to give it more detail. So we're going to take theKraze FX white face paint and load a #1 brush. So around the hair, I only want to do one side: I don't want to overpower the highlights. I'm also going to highlight right above the eyebrows. On the lips/gums, I'm simply going to put some dots, so it looks weird and yucky. Continuing with the highlights, I'm going to go around the wrinkles, and putting some highlights there. We're also going to add some dots at the corner of the forehead, making them different sizes.

We're going to back with the black, and I'm going to give the teeth the last part of detail, and then we are done with this design. For the teeth, I'm going to put down tiny little lines, maybe two or three of them - this will make the teeth more detailed.

You can do this design in any color you like, but I did it with orange.

Monster Face Paint Design #2: Girl Frankenstein

Girl Frankenstein Face Paint Design

The next one I'm going to do is a girl version of Frankenstein. Now this one is very fast to do! I'm using pink, obviously for a girl, and I'm going to make a straight line right above the eyebrows. I'm going to go down towards the eyes, and then around the eyes, making a bubble. Then, I'm going to go right over the nose.

Next I'm going to use the red Kraze FX face paint, which is a darker red, so I'm going to go underneath the eyes. I'm going to finish filling in my base with the pink. This is such a great paint and so creamy! You've got no streaks, no nothing, it goes on solid, and it's also about what brushes you use as well!

Now I'm going to use black Kraze FX face paint, and we're going to draw Ms. Frankenstine's hair. I'm just going to go down onto the pink and make pointy triangles for the hair. I'm also going to color that in with black.

Next we're going to do the bolts that come out the side of the head. I'm using white face paint to create the bolts. I'm going to continue outlining the pink mask with black face paint.

Now we're going to work on the details of the face. We're going to make the eyebrows. With the eyebrows, I'll just scoop up towards the forehead. To do the nose, I'm going to press down and lift up. Trace the red bags underneath the eyes as well. Go ahead and add some stitches to the mask by making a black line and going over it with shorter lines.

Lastly, we're going to highlight our monster to give him more depth and detail. You'll want to highlight the hair, the sides, around the eyes, and in between the nose as well. When you highlight the stitches, you're just going to make one line.

So you could also do a blue Frankenstein, a green Frankenstein, the choice is all yours!

Monster Face Paint Design #3: Monsters Inc.

Monsters Inc. Face Paint Design

We're going to take some green Kraze FX face paint and make a circle up in between the eyebrows. With the circle, we're going to leave it blank for now, so we can make the eye.

I'm going to make a shoulder, and I'm going to bring it down, and place his hands on his hips. On the other side, I'm going to make his arm go down and then up.

White white face paint, I'm going to go in the middle of the circle and make a big, white eye, filling it in completely. Next, I'm going to do the teeth, and what I'm going to do with the teeth, I'm going to first make a smiley face, and later on, I'll define the teeth with black face paint.

With white face paint, I'm going to paint the little horns on the top of his head. Using dark green Kraze FX face paint, we're going to go along the edges, outlining the entire design. With the same dark green, we're going to give him one eyebrow at the top of his forehead.

Now we're going to do the inside of the eye. The Kraze FX blue face paint is a little light, so I'm going to load my brush with the light blue, and then load it up with a darker blue. I'm going to make a circle right in the middle of his eye.

We're going to use Kraze FX black face paint to outline the teeth, so I'm using a small round brush for this, doing zig zags in the smiley face area. Using black still, do a dot in the middle of the blue eye, and also outline half of the white circle. We're also going to finish outlining his entire body. When you're doing outlines, try to be as gentle as you can, so your lines are nice and defined.

To finish him up, I'm going to do a little bit of a highlight. Add a tiny white dot in the middle of the black part of the eye, to make it pop.

This could be for both boys and girls. If you wanted to make it more girly, you could add some teardrops. For a boy, you could do a tribal design on the side of the face.

Monster Face Paint Design #4: Monster Dragosaurus

Dinosaur Face Paint Design

The next one we're going to do is a green full face monster. We're going to use the Kraze FX green one stroke face paint, and load our flat brush. I want mostly the green and the yellow, and not too much of the dark green on my brush.

The first thing I'm going to do is make the monster's forehead. Then I'm going to make a point on either side of the forehead we just painted. Then on each side of the forehead, I'm going to paint zig-zag like lines, still using the split cake. Going down, I'm going to do two small humps, and bring it around the mouth.

I'm going to color it in with green. So I'm going to take my flat brush, and color the mask in. We're going to take white and make some horns while the base is drying. I load my brush and I'm going to make one big horn in the middle of his forehead. We're going to curve the next horn and add it to each side of the big horn. Finally, add two smaller horns on either side. Fill that in with white face paint.

We're also going to fill in the humps that we made eariler down by the cheeks, using white face paint. This will give the illusion of horns coming out the side of the face. Do the same thing on the other side of the face.

Now we're going to make a tooth on the top, and one that is pointing down. Next we're going to use black face paint, and we're going to make the nostrils. Go around the eyes with black face paint to make a point. On top of the eye, we're just going to do a nice straight line for the eyebrows. I'll also add some wrinkles around the eyes.

Using green face paint, I'm going to trace the bottom of the horns. Do the same thing around the horns on the side of the face. Now we're going to outline the horns and the rest of the design. You can also use a stencil to give it more texture and detail, which I will do.

I'm using a 4012 BadAss Stencil, and we're going to use dark blue. Use a sponge, and make sure it's not wet. I'm just going to place the stencil on my design, and tap the loaded sponge onto the stencil. So you can see the stencil gave it a little bit more detail.

Next, we're going to be doing the highlights with white face paint. We're also going to add some dots in the middle of the forehead, black and white dots.

Q&A

Q: Is there anything that will seal the lips, or will the paint come off if they eat or lick their lips?
A: There is a sealer that you can buy, but you don't really want to spray on the lips like that, so what I do, is I put glitter on the lips, or I put lipstick on their lips.
