If you are a face painter, then chances are that you love being creative. Most people don’t realize that face painters are artists with some amazing artistic abilities! It is important to not get stuck painting the same old things over and over again (I’m talking about you, Spider-man and butterfly designs) and to really branch out and explore your creative side! You may not get to paint these types of designs on the job, but it is important to grow personally as an artist, which will in turn make you an even better face painter. Here are some tips on how to continue your personal artistic growth:
Find Inspiration
While social media is a great place to get inspiration, the best thing that you could do as an artist is go out for and adventure! Walk around in nature or around the city and take pictures of things that you find to be interesting. It will work wonders for your art to get inspired in this way. You will also feel a deeper connection with your art/designs and your own personal style will really shine through.
Sketch
Sometimes painters get in the habit of only painting with face paint, but it is important to explore art in a different way. Sketch out your ideas before you take to your face paints and you will see that this process of finding inspiration, then sketching ideas, and finally executing those ideas in face paint form will help you to create really well executed work.
If you like to draw or paint on canvas, make sure to keep up with that form of art as well. Sometimes traditional art can serve as a form of inspiration to face designs and vice versa.
Challenge Yourself
You will never grow as an artist if you never challenge yourself. A committed artist will always push the boundaries of their skill. You can do this by entering interesting face paint/makeup contests on social media, challenging yourself to practice every single day, or doing collaborations with other artists. You could even put a new, unique design on your board at every event in order to broaden the scope of your skill and creativity. Just remember to always have fun with it and remember that nobody is a perfect artist. There is always room to grow.
