Happy New Year! I hope you all had a fantastic holiday. I know it has been crazy trying to get back into my regular routine. So to start off the new year, we’ll jump right back into our, What’s on Your Board segment. This week, I will be featuring my monster design.
Another, never leave home without it design. The great thing about this design is it can easily double as a dinosaur design, or change the colors and add glitter for a girl. Although, the girls do like the more traditional monster colors too!
I will split this board design into to separate tutorials since I feel it will get a bit lengthy. So let’s get started!
Here’s what you’ll need:
Simple Monster:
- Paradise Prisma Rainbow Face Paints – Hot
- Global Body Art Face Paint Dark Blue
- Wolfe Face Paints – White
- Wolfe Face Paints – Black
- Bad Ass Mini Stencils – Reptile
- Loew-Cornell® Gold Grip #4 Round Brush
- Always Wicked Art Butterfly Sponge
Monster Eye:
- Diamond FX Split Cakes – Large Raving Rainbow
- Global Body Art Face Paint – Standard Fresh Green
- Global Body Art Face Paint Dark Blue
- Wolfe Face Paints – White
- Wolfe Face Paints – Black
- Bad Ass Mini Stencils – Reptile
- Loew-Cornell® Gold Grip #4 Round Brush
- Always Wicked Art Butterfly Sponge
The application:
Simple Monster
Step 1: Grab your sponge and load it with your Paradise Prisma Rainbow Cake and stipple on to the forehead keeping the darker color on top.
Step 2: Load your sponge with Global Dark Blue and your reptile scale stencil and begin adding the scale pattern to the design. Your paint should be sticky, not wet, otherwise you will quite possibly make your stencil pattern run.
Step 3: Load your #4 round brush with Wolfe White and paint in the horns and add highlights as shown.
Step 4: Load your #4 round brush with Wolfe Black and begin outlining the design.
Step 5: Continue outlining the design as shown.
Step 6: Finally, outline the horns using your Wolfe Black and #4 round brush.
Monster Eye
Step 1: Load your sponge with your Diamond FX Rainbow Cake and begin stippling around the eye area, keeping the darker color on the outside.
Step 2: Load your sponge with Global Fresh Green and stipple the eye area.
Step 3: Load your sponge with Global Dark Blue and your Reptile scale stencil and add the scale pattern to the top and bottom of the Monster Eye.
Step 4: Load your #4 Round Brush with Wolfe White and paint 4 horns on the design.
Step 5: Load your #4 round brush with Wolfe Black and begin outlining the design.
Step 6: Finish by outlining the horns and adding some texture strokes under the eye area as shown.
Please remember, these are the designs that are my most requested and work best for me. By mastering three different levels of the same design as I have demonstrated, you should be able to tweak your board to offer what will work best for you and your clients.
Check back with us next week for The deluxe Monster Design. Be sure to let us know what you would like to see in future blogs and be sure to share your designs with us on Facebook.
Until next time… Live, Love, Paint.
