Video Tutorial: Hard Hat

I try to offer at least four to six theme-specific designs for clients when they have a party. For some parties which have popular themes, such as superhero or fairy parties, this is easy, because those are standard designs I use all the time. Obscure themes, however, present more of a challenge. When I recently was hired for a construction themed party (which you’d think was a more popular theme), I found very few designs available as I researched the theme, so I created a few designs of my own to go with those I found by other artists. I hope you enjoy this one, which is simple to paint, but gets added value from dot texture added with the BAM2031 Dotty stencil.

Materials

TAG or Mehron Paradise yellow
TAG or Mehron Paradise orange
Mehron Paradise red (optional)
Diamond FX or Wolfe white
Diamond FX or Wolfe black
Sponge
• Dabber
#2 round brush
1/2-inch flat or filbert brush
Dot stencil

Tips

I like the creamy consistency of Paradise as well as the durability and brilliance of TAG, so sometimes I’ll combine them to get the qualities of both for a design. When I was working on this hard hat, I mixed the two yellows.

The dots on the helmet were made with TAG orange with a tiny bit of Paradise red mixed in to give them a little extra kick, but you could use only TAG orange, which is a darker orange than the Paradise orange, if you prefer. The added red intensifies them more.
