This class is designed to be a continuation of my previous Realism class on shading and highlights. In this next installment I will teach you what you need to know in order to paint many of the freaky looking illusions we see in body art. You will learn how to take your knowledge of shading and highlights from the previous class to the next level, how to manipulate the appearance of the skin's surface.
Agenda:
We will cover some tips and tricks for making the skin look like it is popping out, sinking in, and everything in between. We will start by painting an on-the-job Star Wars themed design to illustrate a "dimple" effect, and then go into more specific illusions on the skin that can be adapted to whatever designs your imagination can come up with. I will walk you step by step through painting concave vs convex surfaces, layering and woven textures, holes, parting lines and more! By the end of the class we will combine your new knowledge from both realism classes to create a freaky illusion.
Supplies Needed:
Tools:
- Your favorite round brushes (smaller range, #1-5)
- Blending brush (Cameleon blending brush, or any old, floofy brush)
- a techie-looking texture stencils for our Star Wars design (any small, grid-like geometric pattern will work)
Paints: (your preferred brand):
- glycerine based black, white, brown
- wax based black & white
- a blue monochromatic split cake
