2019 was the year of some amazing new products for face painters. Gone are the days when we were stuck with a couple of brands offering a limited selection of solid pan face paints. And thank goodness. Having fun new products to experiment with make our job so much more fun!
From limited edition brush sets to a brand new line of face paints, this was the year to expand your face painting kit with some exciting new products.
Here’s a list of some of the best face painting launches in 2019. If you haven’t already tried out a few of these, be sure to ring in the New Year with a fun shopping haul.
Here we go!
Kraze FX Face Paint
Let’s cut to the chase and get to what was arguably the biggest and most exciting face painting launch of the year, Kraze FX.
From a wide range of single colors to beautiful split cakes and one-strokes, Kraze FX came out with a complete range of professional face paints. These cruelty-free face paints are designed in clever, stackable, square packaging. The split cakes which currently come in 25 different color combinations are offered in a domed shape so you won’t end up hitting pan right in the middle as you do with regular split cakes. So smart!
The one strokes, also domed so you can get longer use out of them, come in over two dozen color combinations.
All Kraze face paints are free of gluten, parabens, nut based ingredients and perfume which means that you can worry a lot less about potential skin irritation.
Creative Faces Flower Crowns
Now on to a product that isn’t face paint, but would definitely get a lot of use if you’re getting a lot of birthday gigs. Have you noticed that wearing something eye-catching while you’re face painting keeps kids focused on you instead of getting distracted and wiggly? This new product will become your go-to accessory. Creative Faces Flower Crowns are so beautiful you’ll have a hard time deciding on just one. Artist Andrea Nicole Moje created these handmade designs that are the perfect embellishment for your on-the-job outfit. The silk and paper flowers secured to a felt denim headband are comfortable to wear throughout a long face painting gig.
Pink Fish Scale Shine Rhinestones
I don’t know about you, but I get my fair share of mermaid-themed parties. I find that painting mermaids on little faces can be really time-consuming, but an underwater-themed princess crown usually fits the bill. These resin rhinestone blings in Pink Fish Scale Shine are the perfect embellishment for just that. Add some to any aquatic design and your little customers will be thrilled.
Tinsley Glam Gore Transfer Kits
If you are a face painter used to painting unicorn, princess crown and puppy faces, you may second-guess your ability to create realistic gory wounds and other bloody stuff. But every once in a while, especially around Halloween, you get a request for something frightful. Tinsley Medium Glam Gore Transfer Kits take the guesswork out of creating dimensional wounds and scars. Their new line of products make it easy to create looks like lip rot, deep cuts, vampire bites and more. These products are the sort of thing that you may need when you take a gig that requires skills outside your comfort zone. Be sure to watch the video on how to apply the transfers. It’s pretty simple when you follow the directions.
Sally-Ann Lynch Practice Boards
Pro face painter, Sally-Ann Lynch has come out with painted practice boards to add to her expanding line of products. The child face boards are life size, making them great for practicing when your own kids get tired of sitting still. Unlike the clear boards, these painted boards will give you a feel for how different colors will show up on your customer’s face.
Silly Farm
You can always count on Silly Farm for coming up with fresh new color combos for one stroke cakes. Some of their new creations on my own wishlist are Trick Or Treat, which is a great choice for not only Halloween but all sorts of fall-themed designs, and Spooky, which I would use all year round for monster, dino, fairy and alligator designs.
VIVID Glitter Mardi Party Chunky Glitter
VIVID Glitter Mardi Party Chunky Glitter is a must-have for lovers of bling. In colors perfect for all sorts of celebrations like fairy or mermaid-themed birthday parties, this is large-cut, cosmetic grade polyester glitter that will take your face painting designs to the next level.
Fusion Body Art Face Paints
If Fusion Body Art face paints seem familiar, that’s because the new company was founded by two brothers who previously partially owned and managed Global Body Art. Fusion came out with several new colors combinations and kits this year. I love the looks of their Sampler Face Painting Palette with 12 colors. I would use this just for line work because the formula is perfect for that and it wouldn’t take up too much space in my kit. The intense color pigmentation makes designs really stand out when they’re outlined in bright colors like these.
Ohh Body Art Stencils
I’m always on the hunt for fun new stencil designs and I found them at Ooh Body Art Stencils. Their Sphere Airbrush & Face Paint Stencils are especially cool. They look like they’re designed to perfectly complement princess crowns. How cute is this heart stencil! Seriously, I think I need all of them.
Brushes
If you’re in the market for some brushes, there are a few excellent new products to try. Kraze came out with some very affordable round brushes and a petal brush (for just $3.95!).
The master of the swirl and teardrop, Marcela Bustamante came out with a line of premium quality brushes that will absolutely make their way into my collection. Her Blazin Brushes are designed to make the perfect details. Whether you buy her limited edition brush setor just pick up one or two, I have a feeling you’re in for a treat!
That wraps up the most exciting new face painting products of the year. If 2020 is anything like 2019, we have a lot to look forward to.
