Woodland Elf

If you have spent anytime browsing our site you may have noticed some of the other types of makeup such as the prosthetic appliances and perhaps wondered how could that be linked to face painting. I can’t think of a better way to show you than to design a makeup incorporating one of these appliances. Please take note that the appliances are made of latex, so make sure the person having the appliance applied is not allergic to latex or any of the facial adhesives.

This makeup, like the Mermaid Princess was designed in collaboration with my two budding artists and of course one of them is featured as the model.

When using a latex appliance you can color them with the same makeup used on the flesh by first prepping it with castor sealer. Check out the steps below so your appliances is ready before you start the makeup.

Step 1. Apply castor sealer to the appliance with a cotton ball, cover it well but not dripping.

Step 2. Pat the appliance with setting powder and allow a moment to set.

Step 1. Spray the Frost makeup cake with water and saturate the sponge with makeup, apply makeup covering the face and neck completely. We chose this as a base to give our elf a shimmer yet still see some flesh tones.

Step 1.

Step 2. Dampen the applicator brush and load with Foxy Orange, now apply to the eyelid follow eyebrow line. Clean the brush to prepare for next shade.

step 2.

step 2.

Step 3.Using the same process as above, apply the Bronze shade continue past eye brow adding contour lines at the side of the eye.

Step 3.

Step 3.

Step 4. Apply the bronze to the lips.

Step 4.

Step 4.

Step 5. Keeping makeup cake almost dry to give a softer look we use a cosmetic wedge to apply light pink to the cheekbones.

Step 5.

Step 5.

Step 6. Applying the ear tips is not difficult; brush spirit gum on the inner edge of the ear tip using the provided applicator brush.

Step 6.

Step 6.

Step 7. Now apply spirit gum to the area of the ear where the appliances will be placed, don’t worry if you apply over a larger area. Make sure to keep hair out of the way.

Step 7.

Step 7.

Step 8. Allow the spirit gum to become tacky then press the ear tip firmly in place.

Step 8.

Step 8.

Step 9. We already prepared the ear tip for makeup, so we now simply use our hydra sponge and Frost makeup to color the ear tip and the subjects ear. The hair is going to help cover the seam so we will not use any latex to blend the line this time. I promise we will look at that process in the future.

Step 9.

Step 9.

Step 10. Once we style the hair around the ear tips, the makeup application is complete. We added a small flower head band made from artificial flowers from the craft store and of course an elfish looking outfit.

*To remove the ear tips, dip a cotton swab in the spirit gum remover and begin working the swab under the edge of the appliance. Slowly peel the appliance away, re wetting the swab as needed. Once the appliance is off, wet a cotton ball with the remover and clean the remainder of the adhesive from the ear. If you wish to use the appliance again, make sure to remove the adhesive from it as well.
