Winner: Valentina Basilici
We asked our winner a few questions about herself and her creative process, and here's what she had to say.
Tell us a little about yourself.
Hi, I’m Valentina Basilici. I'm 26 years old, and I'm from Italy. I’m very pleased to answer your questions about my art.
What was your inspiration for this contest?
My spring design was inspired by the utopic nature I dream. During this sad moment, we have seen many photos of animals that go around without barriers or human fear and the nature finally breaths a little. Therefore, in my design I wanted representing this freedom and pureness.
How long have you been face painting?
I started face painting nine years ago, in 2011, thanks to the non-profit association “Piccoli Giganti” that helps children and needy families, and introduced me into this colorful world with the aim of fundraising. From that moment I loved this art and I’ve improving myself attending face painting classes with the best Italian teachers. In 2014 I started working in a themed park in Rome as professional face painter.
What have been the highlights of your face painting career?
In 2018 I won some regional face painting contests and in 2019 I won the Italian Body painting festival, face painting category. This year I wanted to participate to the “World Body painting Festival”, but I had to postpone due to the recent events.
How are you handling the recent concern over Covid–19?
Unfortunately, now I’m forced to stay home, as all face painters, and I’m taking the opportunity in order to exercise and improve my abilities.
What are your favorite face painting brands?
The main stores here in Italy doesn’t sell a wide choice of brands of brushes and colors, so I usually use Diamond FX, Cameleon, Superstar and PXP Professional Colors. Not so long ago Global arrived, but I haven’t tried it yet. My brushes are Superstar, Loew Cornell, PXP Professional Colors, Diamond FX, Cameleon and Mark Reid.
Would you like to share any of your face painting related social media links?
I usually share my face and body painting on Facebook: Minou—Handmade jewelry & Face painting https://www.facebook.com/minouhandmadejewelry00/
